KENT COUNTY, MI — A new large-scale building is in the works near the Amazon delivery station warehouse in Walker.

The building, at 3370 Northridge Dr. NW, just north of Grand Rapids near the I-96 highway.

The Northridge Drive building will be 43,200 square feet and will be home to up to three tenants.

“It’s a multi-tenant industrial building,” said Rick Hapner, president of Vision Real Estate Investment, which is developing the building. “It’s a new industrial building and will have all the great amenities that go with a nice new industrial building.” Hapner said the shell of the building is expected to be completed this July.

The property is a 3.75-acre parcel, south of Northridge Drive and across from Hendershot Avenue NW.

Inside the building, the space will be divided among three tenants. The space on the right of the building already has a tenant for 10,800 square feet. The other two sections of the building are split into a 14,400-square-feet area and an 18,000-square-feet portion on the left side of the building.

“We’ve got 25% of the building full,” Hapner said. “We’re actively looking for two more tenants. We’re looking for light industrial, manufacturing or distribution (companies).”

Currently, construction on the site includes the installation of concrete footings and foundation. Grand Rapids-based Visser Brothers, Inc. is spearheading the construction of the project.

The project also includes a 71-space paved parking lot that wraps around the building, along with landscaping and lighting improvements. The driveway to the property will align with Hendershot Avenue and the landscaping will include birch, oak and maple trees. In addition, the building will have six loading docks on the rear side.

The site plan for the industrial building was approved unanimously by the Walker Planning Commission in September 2023.

According to Hapner, the project site is in a prime location.

“We’ve done quite a bit of development south of Grand Rapids,” Hapner said. “We were just intrigued what was happening in the Walker area to the north.”

Hapner said he couldn’t yet name the first tenant secured for the building, but that it’s a building supply company.
